It was also the birth place of Aeschylus (one of the three great tragedians of antiquity) and one of the most important sanctuaries dedicated to the worship of Goddess Demetra and her daughter Persephone. Today Eleusis is the town where the majority of crude oil in Greece is imported and refined.
The Holy Monastery of Daphni: Daphni is an eleventh-century Byzantine monastery situated near the forest of the same name, on the Sacred Way that led to Eleusis. Open on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 08:30 – 17:00.
