Ancient Corinth

Ancient Corinth was one of the richest and most strategically placed cities of the ancient Greek world—right on the narrow land bridge (the Isthmus of Corinth) connecting mainland Greece to the Peloponnese.Trade powerhouse: It controlled overland routes and sea traffic between the Aegean Sea and the Ionian Sea.Wealth & culture: Famous for fine pottery, grand temples, and a cosmopolitan port life.Early Christianity: The apostle Paul the Apostle lived and preached here; the New Testament letters to the Corinthians are addressed to this community. Acrocorinth – a dramatic fortress rising above the plain views are huge. Temple of Apollo (Corinth) – sturdy 6th-century BC columns still standing. Roman forum remains, shops, baths, and the bema (public platform).
